More Lima Touring

I contacted BMW Lima this morning, and they claim that all is in order with Blondy.  Now, if my new glasses arrive when they are supposed to, I will be riding into the mountains by Saturday morning.

I was so impressed with the museum visit yesterday that I took a taxi to the National Museum to check it out this morning.  I think that one of the worst jobs going is being a taxi driver in this city.  The traffic in Lima is unbelievable, and sure enough, people die.  On the way back from the museum, I came across a traffic incident where a truck had run over a pedestrian in a crossing.  While I didn't see the accident, the body lying in the middle of the road confirmed the craziness of Lima traffic and the drivers dealing with each other.

There was an amazing obelisk, well over 10 feet tall, which was a focus of the museum...

The ceramics collection was as varied as the different pre-Columbian groups which occupied Peru...

The top of the stela had a carving of an eagle....

Early metallurgy was featured in this museum...
The early metal workers used templates to duplicate metal pieces...

A model of an early forge....

The National Museum had an extensive collection of gold artifacts...

A photo of a southern acropolis-like fortress...

Fabrics and detailed fragments of fabrics with incredibly finite stitching (164 stitches to the inch) were highly valued by the pre-Columbian groups...

A representation of the guinea pig...

Another example the communication system, using knots.....

A large part of present day Peru is composed of the eastern half of the country, in the state of Amazonia....

And then of course, came the Spaniards...
